It was really neat to ride with Bruce Davidson at the Pennsylvania Horse World Expo. We did some gymnastics with the horses. The thing the left the biggest impression on me was his discussion of the “fifth leg”. He talked about how the fifth leg could make the difference in a horse being a top international horse or not making it. So what is the fifth leg…it is the horses ability to use their back and neck. It was a great reminder of me as to the importance of developing their top line for efficiency in jumping, but it was also a reminder as to how important an auto release in in actually allowing a horse to use themselves.
